Job Summary

Attorney will serve as in-house counsel and as a general legal resource for planning, directing and supervising legal and compliance activities relating to the Physician Services Center (PSC) operations, with a primary focus on the collection of patient receivables from third party payers.  Approximately 60% of Attorney’s time will be dedicated to collection activities.  Through its PSC, Parallon Business Performance Group provides certain healthcare related shared services, including the collection of healthcare receivables, to affiliated HCA physician practices.  This position will work directly with Parallon Legal Staff, HCA legal staff and external counsel.
Duties (included but not limited to):

  • Review accounts and work with collections and payment compliance departments to reverse denials, resolve underpayments, combat payer stalls and otherwise collect on accounts receivables
  • In conjunction with the Parallon Legal team and HCA Legal Department, manage outside counsel litigation against payers, as necessary
  • Provide legal advice to the PSC and recommend policies and best practices on such topics as debt collection; balance billing; risk management; and health information management in accordance with federal and state law
  • Support the negotiation and contracting process for PSC local vendor agreements and provide contract interpretation as needed
  • Provide ongoing legal advice on variety of regulatory issues
  • Supervise paralegal and other legal personnel
  • Serve as liaison to Parallon Legal team, PSG and PCA Legal Department and outside counsel

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • JD from accredited Law School
  • Minimum ten (10)  years legal experience, at least some of which should include dealing physician collections; ideal candidate will have experience working with insurance companies and other third parties in the collection of patient receivables
  • Experience in estate/probate, lien law, workers compensation, bankruptcy, healthcare law, and collection of healthcare receivables preferred
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts
  • License in good standing in the state of Tennessee
