Insurance Pre-Certification Coordinator - Richmond, VA – Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY:
 
The Pre-Certification Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that authorization for scheduled services is obtained and documented on the patient accounts. The position requires excellent customer service for concise and articulate communication with insurance companies, facility registration personnel, physicians’ offices and patients.
  
DUTIES (including but not limited to):
 
  • Place calls to various health plans to obtain appropriate pre-certification prior to the patient’s appointment
  • Develop effective relations with managed care representative as well as physicians and physician office staff
  • Must have knowledge of insurance, physician office operations and certification and referral flow
  • Develop and submit supporting data and reports as requested by management

 
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.  This includes utilizing proper punctuation, correct spelling and the ability to transcribe accurately.
  • Customer orientation - establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
  • Interpersonal skills - able to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties
  • PC skills - demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required including: Outlook, Excel and internet navigation.
  • Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems
  • Basic skills - demonstrates ability to organize, perform and track multiple tasks accurately in short timeframes, have ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple demands, ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team player,  adaptability, analytical and problem solving ability and attention to detail and able to perform basic mathematical calculations, balance and reconcile figures, punctuate properly, spell correctly and transcribe accurately.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:
 
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.

 
 
EXPERIENCE:
 
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Two to three years of medical office/insurance experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10 codes and medical insurance is preferred.
  • Medical/Health Insurance experience is strongly preferred.
  • You will need to pass a typing test with scores of at least 30wpm and 3 or fewer errors prior to interviewing.
  • Must have strong computer skills: Outlook, Internet navigation, Excel sorting.
