Job Description

Job Summary – Helps to coordinate and direct the day-to-day coding educational activities of the HSC. Facilitates and provides coding educational classes/presentations to coding staff, as required/when needed. Responsibilities also include assisting the Coding Director in root cause analysis of coding quality issues and preparing training documents to assist with coding quality action plans. The Parallon Coding Education Manager may provide subject-matter expertise for the HSC Coding Mentor and will assist with ongoing education initiatives at each HSC.
Duties (included but not limited to):

• Responds to any I-9/I-10 coding-related questions from coding staff
• Handles I-10 content related questions from coding staff as it relates to I-10 training courses and materials
• Works with Parallon Coding Education Manager to design education plans
• Monitors QA results to assist Coding Director on root cause analysis and educational opportunities
• Assists HSC Coding departments with curriculum development
• Performs an annual education needs assessment as input to the strategic coding education program and provides this assessment to the Parallon Coding Education Manager
• Communicates I-10 topic and/or question trends to Parallon Coding Education Manager for global HSC education
• Distributes global education from the Parallon Coding Education Manager to coding staff
• Facilitates and monitors I-10 knowledge comprehension of coding staff
• Coaches and mentors coding staff as they develop and grow their I-10 coding skills
• Provides skilled coding support through regularly scheduled coding meetings and as the need arises
• Researches external sources for common coding trends and questions
• Works on special projects as assigned
• Applies adult learning concepts when developing, delivering or assisting others for educational programs
• Provides high level of customer service
• Practices and demonstrates adherence to the Company’s Code of Conduct and ethics philosophy and Company’s Mission and Values
• Completes other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Communication - communicates clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing
• Customer orientation - establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, building trust and respect by consistently meeting and exceeding expectations
• Interpersonal skills - able to work effectively with other employees, patients and external parties
• Demonstrated experience in analysis and presentation of data required
• Familiarity with various types and sources of health care information, including financial and patient level data files• Comfortable working independently, with experience working in a team environment
• PC skills - demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and others as required
• Policies & Procedures - demonstrates knowledge and understanding of organizational policies, procedures and systems

EDUCATION
• Undergraduate degree required, Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, ideally in areas such as Health Information Management
• Relevant experience may substitute education preferences

EXPERIENCE

• Proven work experience in areas of coding education strongly preferred
• Relevant education may substitute experience preferences

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Preferred
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Preferred
