The Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Liaison is responsible for the interface between facility based Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists and the Health Information Management Service Center (HSC) coding staff. The liaison works with all facilities to improve the accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices and improve the quality of physician documentation within the body of the medical record to support code assignments. The Clinical Documentation Improvement Liaison plans, assigns and coordinates the communication and validation of correct coding; actively monitors facility CDI requests and responds to questions submitted. Collaborates with Facility and Division CDI as applicable. 
Duties (included but not limited to): 
• Proactively manages facility CDI and HSC MS-DRG discrepancy request reviews (including corresponding communications, escalation paths and tracking/trending/comparison of data) 
• Reporting to HSC Leadership significant coding trends identified through the CDI process 
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes impacting coding requirements
• Coordinates training and education for coders and facility-based CDI staff when trends are identified 

Job Requirements

• Coding Technical Skills -  regulatory coding (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, ICD-9-CM, MS-DRGs, POA Assignment) and associated reimbursement knowledge

• Undergraduate degree preferred.  Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. 
• Minimum 3 years' health care management/leadership experience required 
• Minimum 5 years' recent inpatient hospital coding experience required 
 • RHIA, RHIT and/or CCS required
