Job Description

Job Summary - Develop the necessary skills to effectively execute the planning, organizing, controlling, and supervision of activities in hospital pharmacy according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and State and Federal laws. Develop and implement innovations in the practice and function of the hospital pharmacy as mutually agreed upon by hospital Administration.

 



Essential Duties & Responsibilities (included but not limited to):

  • Oversee the decisions and activities of an inpatient pharmacy department to ensure the provision of optimal patient care.
  • Maintain appropriate control of department functions to ensure smooth, effective operations.
  • Communicate the Hospital Mission and Philosophy to department employees and integrate with departmental operations. 
  • Perform systematic audits and inspections to ensure facility adherence to CMS, The Joint Commission, BOP, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze data and collaborate with IT to make actionable conclusions regarding inventory, drug utilization, barcode scanning, and automation.
  • Anticipate the needs and issues of customers/suppliers in order to ensure effective departmental operations and/or meet their needs.
  • Carry out a process improvement project utilizing learned Lean Six Sigma techniques to optimize operational workflows, which may include the formulation of a new processes and/or procedure.
  • Discuss fiscal trends of HCA facilities with facility team members by analyzing metrics and financial data to determine areas of opportunity.
  • Construct a business plan for a facility that outlines the strategic steps necessary for the successful implementation of a new service.
  • Actively participate in hospital committees, task forces, and projects.
  • Exhibit characteristics of change management and motivational leadership that fosters effective coaching, communication, project management, employee engagement, and self-reflection.
  • Develop a basic knowledge of evidence-based literature and clinical best practices and appropriately apply them to formulary management decisions and clinical pharmacy initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements



EDUCATION

  • B.S. or Phar.D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy



EXPERIENCE

  •  Hospital pharmacy experience and leadership experience preferred.


 
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE
  • Current Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy
  • Eligibility to apply for pharmacy licensure in the commonwealth of Virginia

 
*With HealthTrust & Hospital leadership approval, successful candidates relocating from another state will be given 3 months to obtain Virginia Commonwealth licensure. During this timeframe, the DOP will only participate in administrative functions.
